Learn to surf or improve your skills with a private surf lesson! Beginners will learn the basic elements of surfing and gain the confidence they need to pursue surfing on their own. Advanced students can expect to tune up their surfing abilities and learn proper wave judgment and surfing techniques from knowledgeable and patient instructors. There will be a strong emphasis on water safety and ocean awareness. We’d love to share our deep-rooted passion for the ocean and the joy of surfing with you; an experience shaped by years of dedication, connection, and time spent in the waves.

Girl in the Curl was highly recommended by folks at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott and we are happy they did! At the end of her two brief lessons my daughter was paddling into waves and catching them by herself! She is still beaming days following her lessons 🤩. 10/10 recommend!

Need to Know

ALL lessons are held at Doheny State Beach.

For ages 5 and up.

ALL instructors are trained in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety, and most importantly FUN.

  • Swimsuit, water, and towel. We will provide a wetsuit and surfboard for each student.

    Please note: Protective footwear (i.e. thick athletic socks or booties) is strongly recommended for the rocks. Don’t have any? Purchase some here.

  • Parents and families are welcome to observe the lesson. We ask that you observe from a distance and let us work our magic.

  • It is $15 per day or $2 an hour pay box.

  • Look for the Girl in the Curl Van in the Doheny State Beach Parking Lot — our exact location is pinned on the map.
